David - Beloved. William - Protector.

Just to keep things interesting, David started showing very high levels of carbon dioxide in his blood last night and into today. Along with that, one of the nurses noticed a heart murmur. They did an echo cardiogram to see what was up and found the artery connecting the two halves of the heart had opened up. This artery is open in the womb and closes at birth to allow normal blood circulation. That's a non-medically correct description of what's going on. They will start treating that over the next few day while trying not to interfere with the bleeding in his brain. For now, they have been able to stabilize his blood gas through increased assistance from the ventilator. Thank God for the miracle of modern medicine. It is truly amazing to see some of the things they can do.
