David is finally getting his first meal in 5 days, poor baby! They have decided his bowels have rested enough, his x-rays look good, so he got a 1/3 of a feeding of regular breastmilk (no additives) just now. He continues to have bowels sounds and we hope to see a bowel movement soon. He got a bath today and has been doing well on room air (nasal cannula at 1.5L) with zero events! He does not like this flow in his nose and wiggles until it is out after the nurse has left the room, it is a little entertaining. It's just his way of telling us he doesn't need it! :)
Before I forget, his eye exam went well! He still has the early stages of ROP but the ophthalmologist was pretty certain that he didn't think David would need surgery. He said that 95% of babies grow out of it in the first year of life with no significant problems. His eyes are still not fully developed but he isn't concerned about that either. It was nice to speak directly with the doctor to find out this wonderful news. Many praises to God!
We have talked again with the neurosurgeon and have decided to move to the other hospital maybe this weekend, and schedule the surgery early next week (Tuesday, Wednesday-ish).
Prayer needs right now - that David would tolerate feedings and have a bowel movement; breathes well on his own and maintains stable blood gases (CO2 in particular), and always on the top of list pray for a miraculous healing of his brain.
"We wait in hope for the LORD;
he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name."
Psalm 33:20-21
I am learning so much through all of this. What is ROP and where could I go to learn more?
ReplyDeletePraise God for the healing and the growth. His promises are never far.
